Hair Waxing

There is a growing trend among women to remove unwanted body hairs. This has led to the emergence of numerous hair removal methods – with waxing being a preferred option for many women. Those who like it cite multiple reasons like its inexpensive and it is less time consuming compared to other hair removal options.

How Waxing Works

A layer of wax is applied to the area with unwanted hair to remove hair by waxing. Once the wax settles or dries, it is rapidly ripped off thus removing the hairs that got attached to it. Unlike shaving, the hair is plucked out from the skin, thus leading to long-lasting results. Unfortunately, there are some risks associated with waxing.

Waxing dangers

Did you know that waxing can be dangerous? This might come as a surprise to many who view waxing as a natural hair removal procedure. Fast forward, here are some side effects common to waxing hair removal methods.

Loss of skin elasticity – Another downside of waxing is that it interferes with the flexibility of your skin. This side effect might not be visible but will undoubtedly be evident after some time. Continued waxing often leads to the appearance of wrinkles and other problems associated with loss of elasticity.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation refers to a localized darkening of some parts of your skin. Waxing has been shown to cause pigmentation to some people. This does not happen to all; if you are concerned about this, its high time to try other hair removal methods.

Skin Rashes

Waxing also leads to the development of skin rashes. Rashes are common to almost everyone using this hair removal method considering that it relies on the physical removal of hair. The good thing about this side effect is that is not permanent and is bound to go away after your skin heals.

Skin irritation

This is more or less common to the development of rashes. However, skin irritation is common among individuals with sensitive skin and is characterized by the development of pustules and in some cases localized bleeding. This interferes with natural hair growth processes and might cause inflammation of the affected area.

There are a lot of concerns about this hair removal method. Some of these side effects can be controlled, but if it leads to severe irritation, it is prudent to consult with your dermatologist. Also, as much you can have it done at home, it is advisable to have it done by a professional – if at all you must go the waxing route.
